Judging a book by its cover

Hello everyone. I have a ‘fun’ project for you today. Something to really get you thinking about ‘Your Story’.

Imagine you are writing a memoir or an autobiography. Now consider the front cover of this book. How does it look? What sort of image is on the front cover? Think about the overarching message and themes that might be running through your book. What image would illustrate your message – your story? Can you find an image that communicates what this book is about? I don’t want you to BUY any images – I just want you to take screenshots or save images in a folder as concepts – with a note about what you think this image conveys about your story.

Are you using a pseudonym to write your story? If so, then I am assuming you don’t want your picture on the front cover. Think about the reasons why are you using a pseudonym? Do you have ‘fear’ about sharing your truth? Or is there another reason? If you use a pseudonym you will probably not want your face on the front cover so have a think about this.

The second part of the project is still about your book cover. If you only had 250 words, could you write the back blurb of your book? What is ‘your story’ really about? Why would people want to buy your book?

Have fun with this one.
